Biography:
Global
Capital is saddened by the loss of Robert (Bob) Barnes. Bob had
been a team member since the inception of Global Capital, and over
the years had provided wisdom and insight critical to many of the
transactions completed.
Bob Barnes retired from Estee Lauder following a 27-year career
in senior management positions with this industry leader. During
his tenure with Estee Lauder, Bob contributed significantly to growing
the company from a $3 million relative start-up company to an international
industry leader with more than $2 billion of sales.
From
1975 through 1990, Bob was President of Estee Lauder USA and Senior
Vice President of Estee Lauder Inc., the highest management position
held by a non-family member. During his tenure as president, he
exceeded budget in every year, compiling an enviable record of profitability.
His accomplishments in this area include the introduction of the
highly respected "Beautiful" women's fragrance which still ranks
as the top selling prestige fragrance in the world. Additionally,
Bob introduced many makeup, skin treatment and other products which
resulted in the revenue mix changing from 80% fragrances to 40%
fragrances, 25% makeup and 35% cosmetic treatment products.
Prior
to his association with Estee Lauder in 1964, Bob spent eighteen
years at Lehn and Fink where he was sales and marketing director
for their cosmetics division for eleven western states.
Bob
received his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University and
received his MBA from Kellogg School of Business in 1940. He served
in the Marine Corps and was honorably discharged with the rank of
Colonel. |
